The Friends of NRA is organized by community volunteers from every walk of life.
Each local Friends of NRA Committee will host an annual FONRA banquet. The banquet has two main functions:
- Social: The banquet is an opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of other law-abiding gun owners. The banquet is also a forum to recognize individuals and groups that are active in shooting education and marksmanship training for youth, women and families. It is common for FONRA committees to make grant check and community service award presentations during the banquet.
- Fundraising: The banquet is a fundraising event. Raffle games, live auctions and silent auctions for firearms and merchandise are a fun way to raise money for shooting programs.
Supports Local and Statewide Shooting Programs
Money raised by the Friends of NRA goes to the NRA Foundation, a
501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization that supports a wide range of firearm-related public interest activities. All of the funds raised at the banquet are distributed in the form of grants to shooting related programs. Half of the money we raise is distributed on the national level for national programs.
Half of the money we raise comes back toVirginia. The Virginia FONRA State Fund Committee decides which programs will receive the money in the form of grants.
